Mike Cox (Athens, WV) and Colin O’Sullivan (Wilmington, NC) ran Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, MN on Saturday, June 16, 2007. Mike was attempting to secure a spot at his second consecutive Olympic Trials Marathon. On a day that saw the start-time temperature over 70 degrees without a cloud in the sky, Mike was well on pace through 21 miles when the humidity and rising temperatures caught up with him and he began to cramp. Mike pushed onward to the finish, despite slowing slightly as the heat punished the near 10,000 runners, Mike’s time was 2:25:30, still good for 17th place overall, but just missing the 2:22:00 qualifying standard. Colin’s performance appeared unaffected by the heat as he posted a PR of 2:52:45. Colin ran a smart race and survived the heat and humidity to set his best marathon time under conditions estimated to be 7-8 minutes slow.

Michael Hayden (Rancho Palos Verdes – Los Angeles, CA) ran the Mohican Trail 100 in Loudonville, Ohio on Saturday, June 16, 2007. Mike’s time of 21:59:52 brought a 17th place finish and was a PR by over four hours. The race featured over 11,000 feet of vertical climb.
